Resurfacing of Kingswells Crescent and Concraig Gardens – Temporary Arrangements

Local councillor Steve Delaney was contacted by a number of Kingswells residents with various questions relating to resurfacing works on these two roads. The original plans would have closed both roads for around three weeks which would have made access arrangements very difficult for residents and taken the X14 and the school buses off Kingswells Crescent at Corse Avenue, effectively cutting off nearly half off the population of Kingswells from bus services for three weeks.

Steve said, “Although local access will be maintained as much as is possible, it was going to be very difficult for the number of motorists living on streets which come off Kingswells Crescent to get and out of their homes, especially at busy times. I brought matters to the attention of Aberdeen City Council and they have been particularly helpful in coming up with a revised plan so that, though it will cause some inconvenience, this will be much less than for the closure of both roads and it will be for much less time”.

Kingswells Crescent Resurfacing

The revised closure will now be from Monday 11th – Friday 15th March. Access will be maintained to people’s homes but there is likely to be delays at busy times and you may have to change your route to go northwards or southbound dependent upon where the resurfacing is being done. I apologise in advance for the delays but it’s now programmed for just five days and the result will be a complete resurfacing of Kingswells Crescent from Concraig Gardens to the C89C, which we will all benefit from.

Works will be done in phases, starting at the Concraig end as per phase 1 as indicated in the above diagram. It will then move to phases 2 and 3 over the course of the next few days.

There is a caveat. If the weather is particularly bad or unforeseen circumstances occur it may be necessary to add on additional days but there is already some contingency for little slippage within this tighter timescale. The last time there was major roadworks on the C89C a few years ago, the shortened timetable worked well.

With regard to the school buses to Bucksburn Academy, these will be diverted up Corse Avenue, cutting off all streets coming off Kingswells Crescent as previously advised. However, both the X14 and the Bucksburn Academy service are intended to return to their normal routes on 18th March if Kingswells Crescent has re-opened. If not, all services will return to the normal routes as soon as this road does re-open. In the case of the school buses, the change will happen from the next day so parents and young people can be informed.

Concraig Gardens Resurfacing

The resurfacing of Concraig Gardens will not now happen at the same time as Kingswells Crescent so as to avoid major disruption. It is however intended that Concraig Gardens will start as soon as possible after Kingswells Crescent has fully re-opened. The intention is for Concraig Gardens to be done from Monday 18th – Friday 22nd March. Unfortunately the road will need to be clear of cars for the resurfacing to proceed. It will therefore be necessary for residents (who do not have a driveway) to park their vehicles in another street when their street is being resurfaced. Local access to residential properties will be maintained thoughout but there will be delays at peak times.

Future Of Kingswells Bus Service Secured

The future of the Council funded Kingswells X14 bus service was secured at Aberdeen City Council’s budget meeting on 6th March 2024.

Speaking in the Council Chamber in support of the Kingswells bus, Steve Delaney, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Kingswells, Sheddocksley & Summerhill said, “Nobody will be surprised when I start off with the Kingswells bus service. For the benefit of members who joined us in 2022, the need for this service arose when FirstAberdeen declared the Kingswells service to be no longer commercially viable in 2017, leaving almost 2000 households with no public transport”.

“Effectively this meant people could not get to work, could not attend medical appointments and could not get out and about to meet friends and family”.

“The Kingswells bus was part funded from the General Fund and part funded through the Bus Lane Enforcement Monies (BLE) last year”.

“The BLE fund is the money raised from fines imposed for bus lane violations. There are restrictions in the use of this fund but public transport is one of these approved uses”.

“Today we move the entire cost to the BLE fund in order to remove this much needed service from the volatility of annual budget setting and to ensure the sustainability of the service for future years”.

“To date Kingswells has been the only part of our city left without a bus service. I thank all my Partnership colleagues for supporting this essential service and would remind all members that this could be inflicted on any of the communities you serve”.

Garden Tax Scrapped

Aberdeen’s Liberal Democrat councillors yesterday delivered on their pledge to scrap the much hated Garden Tax.

Kingswells, Sheddocksley, Summerhill councillor Steve Delaney who opposed the charge vehemently said, “Scrapping of the Garden Tax will address two key goals. It removes a charge that hit those on the lowest incomes hardest and it removes a disincentive to recycling”.

“Some who could not afford the charge and could not transport their garden waste to a recycling centre would disguise it in their general waste, increasing the cost and tonnage going to landfill. Garden waste could also be found dumped at various locations and that had to be uplifted at a cost”.

“If we want people to recycle to the maximum, we need to make it easy for them and the garden tax succeeded in becoming a great disincentive to recycling biodegradable garden waste”.

When the Garden Tax was first introduced, Steve said he would not pay it on a matter of principle and he never did. He said, “We only had a small garden so it was not difficult for us to take our garden waste to the recycling centre. That was much more of a challenge for residents who had no access to a vehicle, were left with no choice but to pay it”.

Note: From September 2024 a brown bin full of garden waste will be collected free of charge from every home. Charges will only apply where two or more bins require collection. Home composting is a viable alternative where the size of your garden would support this.

Ian Yuill on the Council Budget

Aberdeen’s Liberal Democrat councillors have hailed the City Council Budget proposed by the Council’s Liberal Democrat and SNP Partnership as a “budget for Aberdeen and Aberdeen residents”.

Liberal Democrat Co-Leader of the Council Ian Yuill said, “We have delivered a budget for Aberdeen and Aberdeen residents. It protects the vital services people depend upon, invests in Aberdeen’s school buildings, continues to tackle the backlog of road and pavement repairs, allocates £1 million for measures to tackle poverty, and targets action to improve our city centre.”

Ian Yuill continued, “I am especially pleased that we are abolishing the Garden Tax. From September, every household in Aberdeen will be able to have one brown wheelie bin of garden waste collected for free. The Garden Tax is a tax on recycling, and I am delighted we have been able to abolish it.”

Partnership confirms backing for vital Kingswells X14 bus service

The Partnership of councillors running Aberdeen City Council have confirmed it will propose the continued funding of the Kingswells X14 bus service when the City Council meets on 6th March to set its budget for the next year.

Kingswells, Sheddocksley & Summerhill councillor Steve Delaney said, “I am pleased to be able to announce, in advance of next week’s Budget that the Kingswells bus is set to continue”.

FirstAberdeen pulled the plug on the X40 bus service seven years ago and Aberdeen City Council has funded a bus service for Kingswells ever since.

Steve said, “When First withdrew bus services from Kingswells I was there fighting for a replacement bus service alongside local residents. I can understand the anxiety within Kingswells if people are concerned about losing their bus service again. This why myself and other members of the Partnership have given this commitment ahead of next week’s Budget.”.

The Liberal Democrat / SNP Partnership recognises the vital need for the X14 bus service. Without the bus many people would have great difficulty getting to work. Elderly people and people with disabilities would be unable to get to medical appointments, to socialise or to get out for their weekly shopping.

He continued, “The Partnership is committed to continuing support for the Kingswells bus service. It is absolutely not under threat of withdrawal. I will continue to work with colleagues in the Partnership to ensure continuance of this vital service”.

Residents encouraged to represent communities

Cityscape Skyline

People living in Sheddocksley, Mastrick and Summerhill are being invited to stand and represent their communities in upcoming Community Council elections.  Numbers have fallen on the local community council and this has offered an opportunity for some more local residents to get involved.

Local councillor for Kingswells, Sheddocksley & Summerhill Steve Delaney, who served on community councils for a number of years said, “Community councils were created to ensure the views of local communities are heard. Community councils are statutory consulates on Planning and Licensing applications and they often respond to consultations by ACC, NHS and other public”.

“Some community councils produce local newsletters and others organise local events including family fun days, litter picks and more. It’s a great opportunity to get involved, helping out with current initiatives and putting forward new ideas”.

There are no special skills or previous experience required to stand for election, but anyone interested is encouraged to have a keen interest in their local community and be public spirited.

Candidates must be at least 16 years old and be named on the current electoral register for the community council area in which they live in.

The closing date for nominations is Thursday 21 March at 4pm, with the notice of poll or uncontested election being on Monday 1 April.

Changes to Kingswells Bus Service

Additional funding was secured earlier this week which will allow the Kingswells bus to continue offering a full daytime service when the new service commences on 12th June. This follows on from the Council’s budget meeting where the service, originally at risk of being withdrawn, was reduced to cover peak times only with no buses running between 10am and 4pm.

Local councillor Steve Delaney supported a resident led campaign to save the X40 when First were proposing its withdrawal in 2016. Following that withdrawal in 2017 he continued the fight for bus services in the Council chamber and Aberdeen City Council has since then provided a bus service (currently operated on their behalf by Stagecoach)  for  Kingswells. Steve attended a public meeting a few weeks ago and assured residents that he would do what he could to try to achieve a better outcome from that which was passed at the budget meeting.

Stagecoach were the preferred bidder following a tender process but their tender, for a Monday to Friday daytime service exceeded the funding which had been allocated towards supporting a bus service to Kingswells. On 24th May the Net Zero, Environment and Transport Committee met to disburse funding to a number of transport related initiatives. This was from a fund made up from fines imposed on motorists who were caught in bus lanes outwith the permitted hours. There are restrictions on what these funds can be used for and supported bus services is one of many, alongside replacement bus shelters, core paths and improved bus priorities, cycle lanes and so forth.

Steve said, “With a record shortfall of £46.6 million the budget has been a difficult time affecting communities right across the city. Remaining the second lowest funded Council (per head of population) didn’t help either. Despite all of this I felt that the Kingswells bus was an absolute necessity and I put a strong case to colleagues. Still not content that a peak time only service would meet the basic needs of residents I have been on the case ever since. Stagecoach put out some news last week but I felt unable to comment, knowing it all depended on the approval of this additional funding.”

“The new service is not the same as what is currently in place. The route is different, some services will include Kingswells Park and Ride and the main entrance at ARI and there’s no evening service. The X14 will work well for the majority of residents but it will represent challenges for some people, especially shift workers.

“I believe the best possible outcome was secured during what all of us will recognise as particularly challenging times”.

FAQ regarding the X14 service

When does the service start?

12th June 2023

What happens now that the new service has been agreed?

The current 14 route (and timetable) continues unchanged until 9th June

Why are there are fewer stops shown on the draft timetable?

These have been confirmed as ’timing points’ they do not represent a reduction in bus stops served within Kingswells.

Does the change to X14 mean it is a limited stop service?

No, it just means that it’s a more direct route into the city centre and will offer reduced journey times (at certain times of day). All bus stops on the new route will be served.

What changes have there been to the route?

The bus follows the existing route around the village down Old Lang Stracht, Lang Stracht and Westburn Road. Instead of turning right into Camperdown Road, it continues along Westburn Road to Hutcheon Street, Mounthooly and Gallowgate, terminating at Broad Street. It also has peak time pick ups and drop-offs at both the Kingswells Park and Ride and the entrance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Does the bus still go to Union Square?

No, for avoidance of doubt, it goes left at Littlejohn Street, right onto King Street, right onto Union Street and right onto Broad Street where it terminates. The bus then returns to Kingswells reversing the route used to get to the city centre.

What is the frequency

Roughly every 30 minutes at morning and afternoon peak and hourly at all other times but check the timetable for details.

Are the bus times the same ?

No. Please ensure you check the timetable  before you leave.

What time does the last bus run?

The last bus headinhgh fj Kingswells leaves Broad Street at 19.19

The last bus leaves Migvie Grove at 19.57

Is there a weekend service?

Unfortunately no.

Where can I get a timetable

These should be available on the bus very soon. If there’s any extras I have asked that they be  dropped off at the Community Centre. They can also be downloaded from Stagecoach’s website.

First Aberdeen Tap On/Off For Capped Fares

First Aberdeen is introducing Tap On Tap Off (TOTO) payment technology for the first time on 2nd April 2023. The move follows the successful introduction of the system in Glasgow in 2022, which has been well received for speed, ease of use and value.

This new payment technology will replace the existing Tap and Cap system in place in Aberdeen and will offer customers better value on their journeys as the most someone can spend on any number of journeys within a week will be £21.

The update comes as the transport operator is introducing new prices and ticketing options following a fares review. While savings can be made with the new TOTO system, the overhaul of First Aberdeen’s ticketing options will see fares increase by an average of 9%.

The TOTO contactless system guarantees customers ultimate flexibility on the fare paid. It analyses a customer’s travel movements and then calculates the lowest fare for the journey they have made. The system allows the customer to have peace of mind that they will always receive the cheapest Day or Week fare for the travel they have completed.

To access TOTO, a person uses their contactless card or mobile device to ‘tap on’ at the ticket machine next to the driver. At the end of their journey, they simply ‘tap off’ on the new card reader device, which have been installed to enable the journey to be accurately recorded and savings made.

Local councillor Steve Delaney said, “Quite a number of people have been in touch about these applications, not having previously been aware of them. Councillors are not permitted to discuss the merits of ab planning application prior to its determination, otherwise they cannot participate in any decision making process relating to the application”.

The information below was supplied to me by email from the site agents. I am passing no opinion on these applications, merely advising you of the consultation events, should you wish to attend.

I will not be entering into correspondence on any aspect of these applications, though I am of course happy to hear your views (without passing opinion on them) or to pass on information relating to the relevant processes such as I have done by way of the two events listed below”.

All Change At The Town House

There was a ‘changing of the guard’ at the Town House yesterday (18 May 2022) following agreement between the Scottish Liberal Democrat and SNP councillors to form a partnership for five years to run Aberdeen City Council. This happened at the first meeting of the new Council following recent elections which saw both group gain one seat each, resulting in a majority within the chamber.

The city council has required coalitions since 2003 following the introduction of the Single Transferrable Vote system whereby you rank council candidates in order of preference. From the 1950s to 2003, the city was run by a succession of Labour majorities. However, in 2003, the Liberal Democrats ended Labour dominance. From 2003 to 2007, the Council was run by a coalition of 20 Liberal Democrats and 3 Conservatives. From 2007 to 2012, there was a Liberal Democrat / SNP coalition. From 2012 to 2022, a Labour / Conservative / Independent coalition was in charge of the city council.

Over the past two weeks the different groups have had discussions with each other to identify whether or not a deal could be struck to run the city. The 11 Labour councillors confirmed that they would not enter into a formal coalition with any other political group but they were willing to work with other groups as long as those groups were prepared to support and action the Labour manifesto. This effectively made it impossible for either Labour (with 11 councillors) or the Conservatives (with 8 councillors) to reach the required minimum of 23 councillors needed to run the city. Talks continued between the SNP and Liberal Democrat groups to establish whether or not they could agree a way forward.

Liberal Democrat member for Kingswells, Sheddocksley & Summerhill, Steve Delaney said, “Our starting point was always going to be our manifesto. We were elected on what we said we would deliver and, unless we could bring forward the bulk of what was in our manifesto we would been letting down those who had put their trust in us. In the end we came up with a policy statement which does exactly that”.

Steve, continued, “In addition to manifesto commitments I agreed to a partnership with the SNP to deliver stability for the city over the next five years. There were no other alternatives available for running the city council. At the Council meeting yesterday the Conservatives and Labour confirmed they would not revive their decade long coalition.

“It’s worth stating emphatically that I do not support Scottish independence. My three Liberal Democrat colleagues on the council share that view. The Scottish Liberal Democrats oppose independence and an independence referendum. Absolutely none of this has changed, nor will it”.

“This is a local solution for local circumstances. We have concluded an agreement with SNP councillors which focuses on investing in our crumbling infrastructure and taking forward improvements to services which are within the remit of the council. Although our policy statement is lengthy and not everything can be progressed from day one, our top priorities will be education, housing, infrastructure and the environment. Given that our position on the future of the United Kingdom is diametrically opposed to that of the SNP, both groups have agreed to disagree on this issue and to work together on maintaining and improving our local services in Aberdeen”.

Some key Liberal Democrat priorities for the city which will be taken forward include

  • abolishing the Brown Bin charge;
  • more curriculum choices in schools;
  • improving music education;
  • a new £1million road safety fund;
  • Resurfacing at least 40km of roads and 40km of pavements each year so that by 2032 at least 80% of our roads and pavements are in good condition.
  • investment in green transport – walking and cycling
  • campaigning to reverse underfunding of our city
  • addressing the climate change emergency and moving the city towards a sustainable net zero position.

Steve concluded, “After ten years of the Labour, Conservative and Independent coalition, Aberdeen voted for change. We could have stood on the sidelines and made plenty of noise or we could step up, take responsibility and deliver on the promises we made to those who put their trust in us.

“We didn’t like the terms administration – which nobody understands – or coalition, so instead we are describing ourselves as a partnership. The SNP are indeed the larger of the two groups but the deal agreed with them takes us forward as partners in the running of the city.

“Our leader Ian Yuill becomes co-leader of Aberdeen City Council, Martin Greig becomes Convenor of the Education Committee, our new member Desmond Bouse is Vice-Convenor of Planning. I am Vice-Convenor of the Licensing Committee and Depute Provost”.

ABERDEEN CITY COUNCIL SCOTTISH LIBERAL DEMOCRAT & SNP PARTNERSHIP AGREED

Cllr Ian Yuill, Group Leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrat Group on Aberdeen City Council and Cllr Alex Nicoll, Group Leader of the SNP Group on Aberdeen City Council announced that their parties have agreed to lead Aberdeen City Council from today’s (18 May 2022) Statutory Council Meeting.

At the Local Government elections, 5 May, the Scottish Liberal Democrats increased their number of seats from 3 to 4 Councillors. The SNP won 20 seats, increasing from 19, on Aberdeen City Council.

Commenting on the announcement,

Cllr Ian Yuill:
“Aberdeen and Aberdeen City Council faces major challenges in the years ahead. The Liberal Democrats are committed to working in this Partnership to deliver for Aberdeen’s citizens. We will work to provide the best possible education in modern buildings, to help citizens through the cost of living crisis, improve transport and roads, and work to meet global environmental challenges.”

Cllr Alex Nicoll said:
“People in Aberdeen have voted for leadership that will work for them. Our Partnership will aim to tackle the issues that are important to Aberdonians. We will deliver the services that people deserve from their Council, help give children the best start in life and work to combat poverty. We will also play our part in delivering a socially and economically just transition away from oil and gas, striving to make our city the Net Zero capital of Europe.”

Thank You

Liberal Democrat Steve Delaney has been re-elected to Aberdeen City Council to represent the Kingswells, Sheddocksley, Summerhill ward. Steve was elected at Stage 1, heading up the poll with 1778 first preferences.

Steve said, “I am delighted to have been re-elected to serve a third term as a councillor for our area. First of all I would like to thank the Returning Officer and his staff. I would also like to thank Aberdeen Donside Liberal Democrats, my election agent, Peter Heald and my wife Eileen for all their support and their hard work. Thanks also to the ‘army’ of local supporters who helped deliver this result. Last but not least thanks to all 1778 people who have put their trust in me.

“I’m looking forward to a quiet weekend, then it’s back to work again on Monday looking after the interests of our area and getting on with the job. I’m delighted to be back and I offer my thanks once more to all who supported me in the recent election.

“I dedicate this victory to my friend John Stewart, who took me to my first electoral success in 2002 and sadly passed away just a few weeks ago. Also to another good friend Neil Berry who delivered thousands of Focuses over 19 years and died suddenly last year”.

Liberal Democrats Launch City Election Manifesto

Aberdeen Liberal Democrats have launched their manifesto – “Putting the Sparkle Back in the Granite City” – for the 5th May Council elections.

Liberal Democrat Group Leader Councillor Ian Yuill said, “Aberdeen is a city with a long and proud heritage, a city with a record of valuing education, a city with a strong entrepreneurial spirit and a city which embraces links across Europe and around the world.

“Sadly, over the last ten years the City Council has been led by a coalition of Conservative, Labour and Independent councillors which has more than doubled the Council’s non-housing capital debt to over £1,068 million pounds. This is the equivalent of £4,664 for every adult and child in Aberdeen. The Conservative, Labour and Independent councillors have pursued large vanity projects rather than focussing on providing the key services upon which people depend.

“Aberdeen’s most valued asset is its citizens, and the Liberal Democrats are committed to improving life chances and the quality of life for all. Our 2022 election manifesto focuses on delivering that.

“The Liberal Democrats are committed to putting the sparkle back into the granite city.”

Key points in the Liberal Democrats’ plans for Aberdeen and the City Council include:

✅ Taking action to improve educational opportunities for Aberdeen’s young people.

✅ Transforming the quality of our city’s environment through positive green policies, including planting one million trees over the next ten years.

✅ Improving transport within our city, including £40 million of investment over five years in repairing and resurfacing Aberdeen’s crumbling roads and pavements.

✅ Making streets safer for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.

✅ Developing Aberdeen’s economy in a genuine partnership with the private sector, third sector and residents.

✅ Revitalising our city centre.

✅ Delivering, with partners, over the next ten years, thousands of homes for social rent.

Councillor Martin Greig, Depute Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group, added, “Education is the key investment for our city’s future. Aberdeen’s children and young people deserve the best possible education so they can meet the challenges of the twenty first century. The Liberal Democrats will focus on providing high quality education in good quality school buildings.”

Liberal Democrat Housing and Transport Spokesperson Councillor Steve Delaney added, “There are over 5,000 people on Aberdeen’s council house waiting list. The Liberal Democrats want to eliminate that waiting list by building, with partners, 5,000 homes for social rent over the next ten years. Most of those 5,000 homes will be council houses.”

Steve Delaney added, “The Liberal Democrats also want to tackle the terrible state of many roads and pavements in Aberdeen. Our manifesto includes a plan to invest in resurfacing and properly repairing roads and pavements.”

Ian Yuill concluded, “After the Council election on 5th May, Aberdeen’s Liberal Democrat councillors will work to deliver the best possible services, to strengthen our economy and to make Aberdeen an even better place to live, do business, work, be educated and enjoy life.”

Aberdeen’s Liberal Democrat Budget Proposals

Aberdeen’s Liberal Democrat councillors yesterday proposed investing in education, abolishing the Garden Tax, repairing crumbling roads and pavements, and enhancing Aberdeen’s environment at Aberdeen City Council’s budget meeting.

Liberal Democrat Group Leader Ian Yuill said: “The Liberal Democrats’ priorities are education, the environment and repairing Aberdeen’s crumbling roads and pavements.

“Our proposals include investing over £46 million in city schools, abolishing the hated Garden Tax and investing in properly maintaining Aberdeen’s roads and pavements. Things that affect the whole city. It is important that the council gets the basics right.”

Key points of the Liberal Democrats’ budget proposals included:

  • Investing £46.4 million in education buildings including a new primary school for Torry, relocating St. Peter’s School, improving nursery facilities at St. Joseph’s School and £2 million to increase capacity at Bucksburn Academy.
  • Abolishing the Garden Tax, the unpopular charge made to collect residents’ garden waste from brown bins.
  • Investing an extra £14 million over five years in repairing roads and pavements across Aberdeen. This would pay to resurface up to 70 miles of road surface.
  • Investing in improving Aberdeen’s environment including tree planting and action to enhancing biodiversity.
  • Improving road safety by creating a Road Safety Fund and rolling out 20mph speed limits in all residential areas in Aberdeen.
  • Investing £16 million in improving charging facilities for electric vehicles in Aberdeen. This is the equivalent of over 3,200 fast chargers.
  • Investigating the feasibility of planting rose beds at key points alongside Anderson Drive.
  • Investigating generating green energy using ground source heat pumps in council playing fields and parks.
  • A 3.3% increase in council tax.
  • Cutting by £50 million to £100 million the funds allocated to the City Centre and Beach Masterplans.

Ian Yuill said, “Despite the huge cuts forced on the council by the Scottish Government, the Liberal Democrat have once again focused resources on our priorities of education, Aberdeen’s roads and pavements and our environment.”

Bus Route Diversions in South Sheddocksley

Lewis Road is being resurfaced between 28th February and 20th March. As a result of this, the road is closed and only access to homes is permitted. The No 23 bus is currently being diverted around the new development at Maidencraig, missing out the whole of the South Sheddocksley loop.

Lib Dem councillor Steve Delaney, who lives locally, said, “The resurfacing of Lewis Road is very welcome but of course resurfacing this length of road and maintaining access to people’s homes has been challenging and a few problems have arisen. I have been working with the council to try to resolve as many of these as possible”.

“It was also brought to my attention that a small number of motorists had been driving too fast over the construction site, potentially putting the work force at risk. I would therefore ask that anyone who does not need to take their car out, leaves it at home for the next few days. If you do need to drive, please do so, but be particularly mindful of the safety of staff working on site. Thank you”.

Two issues stood out as affecting quite a sizeable number of people, both  were related to the height difference between footway and carriageway (under construction)as the old road surface was removed. This was causing difficulties for wheelchair users as the step was high for them to get back up onto the footway on the other side. In addition, the gap between the carriageway (under construction) in Lewis Road and that of Barvas Walk was making it difficult for residents to get in and out of Barvas Walk.

Steve continued, “Both the council and the contractor have been amenable to trying to resolve the concerns I have raised with them. Accordingly, temporary ramps are already being put in place at the dropped kerbs as well as at the entrance to  Barvas Walk”.

In addition, the contractor was making good progress over this first week and we are now looking at a completion date of 9th March for the resurfacing of the entire road. It’s likely some minor works such as lining may need to be done after that date. However, the road re-surfacing should, subject to weather conditions, be completed by then and fully re-opened to all traffic”.

Meanwhile the council has agreed to put out relevant information through their social media accounts. I appreciate not everyone is online, so please pass the word around your neighbours, especially people who may not  be online and do make regular use of the bus service”.

“With regard to the No 23 bus, this is expected to return to the Sheddocksley loop from Monday 7th March. It will not be able to completely follow the normal  route until the resurfacing has been completed. However, it will follow a modified route which should involve a much lesser walking distance to a bus stop than it has over this past week”.

Details of bus route diversions can be found on the FirstAberdeen website. You can keep up with the latest on the resurfacing and the buses through the council’s Twitter and Facebook pages.
